From Missouri to Syria: When people are occupied, resistance is justified

Ferguson, Missouri has been witnessing several consecutive nights of police violence against protesters denouncing the murder of Michael Brown, another unarmed black teenager gunned down in the street by a white police officer on 9 August.
We, supporters of the Syrian uprising, express our solidarity with the family of Mike Brown, who was murdered few days before starting college. We express our support for all the families of black youngsters whose lives were ended by a capitalist white supremacist regime that systematically oppresses black people and people of colour and legitimizes violence against them. Syrians mark the first anniversary of the Assad regime’s chemical attacks on Al Ghouta, which caused the death of several hundred people, we the undersigned stand in solidarity with the millions of Syrians who have struggled for dignity and freedom since March 2011. The United States, Russia and the United Nations wanted to get rid of the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons and did not mind turning the Mediterranean sea into a waste dump for toxic agents. Stop Zionist aggression on Gaza; end the siege now!

Since the beginning of the so-called “Operation Protective Edge” – Israel’s latest aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip – on 8 July, over 180 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been murdered in the worst escalation since the November 2012 aggression.
Israel’s unrelenting deliberate targeting of civilian areas, coupled with the desperate shortage of medical supplies caused by the Israeli-Egyptian siege, means the death toll will continue to climb rapidly. Continue reading
